All exercises used in The I.D. Method are based upon theatrical improvisation techniques for actors. These techniques have been developed to encourage personal and emotional expression.
The I.D. Method applies these techniques to professional/personal situations, targeting the content of the exercises to correspond to the participants’ needs while encouraging their spontaneity and correct use of English modes of expression.
There are two categories of exercises included in The I.D. Method:
1. Standard Exercises are designed to encourage spontaneity, enhance listening skills and teach the principals of English modes of expression, their use and meanings.
2. Tailored Exercises are created by the information taken from an in depth phone interview with each participant prior to the seminar. They are specifically designed to incorporate the actual professions and/or life situations of each participant, thus allowing participants to perfect their use of professional and/or personal vocabulary and English expression in the areas that will be most directly beneficial to each individual.
Exercises are specifically structured to simulate actual situations in which each participant engages in English communication in their professional and/or personal lives.
Throughout the course, and specifically after each exercise, participants will be asked to describe their impressions during the given interaction. Actors and participants will discuss individual participation, reactions and appropriateness of responses, clarity of intention and expression, and efficiency of negotiation and communication skills. Thorough commentary and coaching enhance the effectiveness of every exercise.
